“All rules of war have been broken in Gaza,” with at least eight schools housing displaced Palestinians attacked by Israel in the last 10 days, says UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini.

Al Jazeera’s correspondent reports at least 81 killed in day of attacks targeting homes and UN facilities in Gaza.

Riyad Mansour, Palestine’s envoy to the United Nations, tells the UN Security Council (UNSC) that Israel’s war on Gaza is the “most documented genocide in history”.

Washington’s envoy to the UNSC said there has been progress in talks to adopt an immediate ceasefire in Gaza nearly four months after the council demanded one.

At least 38,794 people have been killed and 89,364 wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza since October 7. The death toll in Israel from the Hamas-led attacks on October 7 is estimated at 1,139, with dozens of people still held captive in Gaza.

More Palestinian children killed by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank

In a seven-day period between July 9 and Monday this week, Israeli forces killed three Palestinians – including two children – in the occupied West Bank, while 37 more Palestinians were injured, including 13 children, the UN reports.

In its latest update on the situation in the occupied West Bank, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) reports that the two children killed by Israeli forces were 14 years-old.

One child was shot by Israeli troops while playing with two other children west of Ramallah on July 9. The second child was shot during a search operation south of Jenin on July 11. Five other children sustained injures from live ammunition fired by Israeli forces in the second incident.

According to UNOCHA, between October 7 and July 15, 554 Palestinian have been killed in the occupied West Bank either by Israeli soldiers or settlers. In the cases of seven slain Palestinians, it was not known if the killings were carried out by soldiers or settlers.

Israeli lawmakers move to extend mandatory military service for men

Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, approved on Wednesday the first reading of a bill that would see mandatory military service for Israeli men extended from 32 months to 36 months.

The legislation, which states that the extension would apply for the next five years, comes as the country faces a shortage of soldiers as its war on Gaza drags on and a new front threatens to open up with Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Earlier, we reported that the Knesset had also adopted a resolution opposing Palestinian statehood, in a further rejection from Israeli lawmakers of the two-state solution.

Significant decline in 63 percent of Gaza crop fields: UN

New UN analysis of satellite images has found 63 percent of Gaza’s crop fields have now experienced “significant decline in health and density” due to razing, heavy vehicle activity, bombing, shelling, and other conflict-related causes.

The new analysis from the United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT) is based on images taken in June 2024 and shows a further decline from May 2024 when 57 percent of Gaza’s crop fields were found to be damaged. It included an assessment of orchards and other trees, field crops and vegetables.

UNOSAT found there had been a particular decline in and around the northern Gaza and central Deir el-Balah governorates compared with the preceding month.

Northern Gaza has experienced the most severe decline overall with 75 percent of its cropland damaged.
