The Israeli army bombed its ninth school shelter in the Gaza Strip in recent days, this time in Gaza City. The attack killed at least two Palestinians who were sheltering there among other internally displaced people.

Al Jazeera’s correspondent reports that at least five people were killed when the Israeli army shelled a house in the Bureij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip. The attack was followed by shelling that killed at least five in the nearby Nuseirat refugee camp.

Israeli strikes killed a second Hezbollah commander in 24 hours, according to statements from the Lebanese group and the Israeli army. Israel also assassinated a senior commander of a Hamas-allied armed group in Lebanon in the last day.

Israel has reduced by 94 percent the amount of water available in Gaza, “creating a deadly health catastrophe“, an Oxfam report says.

At least 38,848 people have been killed and 89,459 wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza. The death toll in Israel from Hamas-led attacks on October 7 is estimated at 1,139, with dozens of people still held captive in Gaza.

FIFA delays decision over suspending Israel Football Association

World football governing body FIFA has delayed its decision on whether to suspend the Israel Football Association (IFA) from international competition until after the Paris Olympics, after the Palestinian Football Association (PFA) and the IFA requested more time.

It said in a post on X that an “independent legal assessment” of the PFA proposals against the IFA was due to be provided to the FIFA Council by July 20.

“Following requests for extension from both parties to submit their respective positions, duly granted by FIFA, more time is needed to conclude this process with due care and completeness,” it said.

It said the PFA assessment will now be shared with FIFA no later than August 31.

The PFA has previously questioned Israel’s participation in FIFA-organised events, calling for their suspension from the world football governing body over its war on Gaza and its occupation of the Palestinian territories.

The issue was discussed at FIFA’s annual congress in Bangkok in May, where it was decided that a special council meeting would be held within the next two months to determine Israel’s status.

One person confirmed killed following suspected drone attack in Tel Aviv

Our Al Jazeera Arabic colleagues are reporting that Israeli ambulance sources have confirmed that one person has been killed as a result of a suspected drone attack in the city of Tel Aviv.

Earlier, we reported that a spokesperson for the Houthi armed forces said in a post on social media that the Yemen-based group had “targeted ‘Tel Aviv’ in occupied Palestine”.

The Israeli military has said it is opening an investigation to find out why the country’s air defence systems were not activated to intercept the drone.

Two people have also been hospitalised after being slightly injured by shrapnel in the attack.

US House Speaker says disruption of Netanyahu speech could lead to arrest

US House Speaker Mike Johnson has said that anyone who attempts to disrupt a speech set to be given by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to a joint session of Congress on July 24 could be arrested.

“There are a number of Democrats in the House who have said they’re going to boycott that event. Some others may protest,” Johnson said at a Republican Jewish Coalition event on the sidelines of the Republican National Convention, being held in Wisconsin this week.

“We’re going to have extra sergeants at arms on the floor. If anybody gets out of hand… We’re going to arrest people if we have to do it,” he said.

High-profile Democratic lawmakers, including Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, have signalled their intention to boycott Netanyahu’s controversial address over Israel’s war on Gaza.
