Lebanon truce holds; Israeli attacks on Gaza ‘absolutely terrifying’

al jazeera

People are returning to their damaged homes in parts of Lebanon as a fragile truce holds between Israel and Hezbollah, while the Lebanese armed group said it achieved “victory” over Israeli forces and that its fighters remain at the ready.

Heavy Israeli bombardment is “absolutely terrifying” for Palestinian civilians who remain trapped in the north of the Gaza Strip, a senior UNRWA official said.

Israel’s military placed a nighttime curfew on southern Lebanon, warning people that travelling south of the Litani River is “forbidden” until 7am local time (05:00 GMT) on Thursday.

Israel’s genocide in Gaza has killed at least 44,282 Palestinians and wounded 104,880 others since October 7, 2023. At least 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas-led attacks that day, and more than 200 were taken captive.

In Lebanon, at least 3,823 people have been killed and 15,859 wounded in Israeli attacks since the war on Gaza began.

Israeli military says 10 south Lebanese villages demarcate line of prohibited area

The Israeli military has again warned people in Lebanon to not return to their homes in the south of the country, this time publishing a map and naming specific villages along the border with northern Israel which are off-limits.

Naming the 10 Lebanese villages in a post on social media, the Israeli military’s Arabic-language spokesman Avichay Adraee said the locations of the villages demarcate a line where residents are prohibited from entering.

“Until further notice, you are prohibited from moving south to the line of the following villages and their surroundings, and also within the villages themselves: Shebaa, al-Habbariyeh, Marjayoun, Arnoun, Yahmor, Qantara, Chaqra, Barashit, Yatar, al-Mansouri,” the spokesman said.

“Anyone who moves south of this line – puts himself in danger,” he said.

Israeli military carries out more arrests in West Bank raid

Earlier, we reported that Israeli forces arrested a Palestinian man in the occupied West Bank town of Azzun, east of Qalqilya.

Palestinian media outlets are now reporting that four brothers have been arrested during that ongoing raid of Azzun.

It’s not immediately clear if the original arrest is included in that figure.

We will bring you more information when we have it.
