Israeli forces continue to pound Gaza, killing at least nine people in pre-dawn attacks, including a 15-day old infant. The deaths come hours after Israel bombed the so-called “safe-zone” of al-Mawasi and killed at least five children.

US President-elect Donald Trump demands that Hamas releases Israeli captives held in Gaza by the time he enters office, warning again that “all hell will break out” otherwise.

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati warns the international sponsors of the Israel-Hezbollah truce deal about continued Israeli violations as Lebanon’s army deploys units to southern areas, which Israeli forces have pulled out from.

Israel’s genocide in Gaza has killed at least 45,885 Palestinians and wounded 109,196 since October 7, 2023. At least 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas-led attacks that day and more than 200 were taken captive.

UN, Lebanon call for $371m in humanitarian aid

Imran Riza, the UN’s humanitarian coordinator in Lebanon, said on Tuesday that $371.4m in additional funding was “urgently required to sustain life-saving efforts” until March 2025, to “prevent further deterioration of an already dire situation”.

“While the cessation of hostilities offers hope, over 125,000 people remain displaced, and hundreds of thousands more face immense challenges rebuilding their lives,” Riza said, announcing the joint appeal with the Lebanese government.

The call builds on the UN’s initial appeal in October for $426m, when all-out war flared between Israel and Hezbollah, sending more than a million people fleeing their homes in Lebanon.

About $250m was raised through that appeal, according to the UN.

Supporting this week’s call for aid, Lebanon’s Minister of Environment, Nasser Yassin, said the country’s “institutions and public sector also require significant support to prevent the collapse of basic and social services”.

Fresh clashes reported between PA forces, Palestinian fighters in Jenin

As we have previously reported, the Palestinian Authority (PA) has carried out a weeks-long security operation against the Jenin Brigades, a coalition of Palestinian armed groups in the occupied West Bank.

Our Al Jazeera Arabic colleagues, citing sources in the Jenin area, now report that armed clashes have again taken place between PA security forces and armed groups in the Jenin refugee camp over recent hours.

We will bring you more information when we have it.
