Israeli forces attack the Nasser Hospital in Gaza, killing at least two people, including Hamas leader Ismail Barhoum.
His assassination comes hours after Israeli forces bombed a tent in al-Mawasi in Gaza and killed a second member of Hamas’s Political Bureau, Salah al-Bardawil.
US air strikes have hit two areas in Yemen, including a densely populated neighbourhood in the capital, Sanaa, killing at least one person and wounding 15 others.
Gaza’s Health Ministry says at least 50,021 Palestinians have been confirmed dead and 113,274 wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza. Gaza’s Government Media Office updated its death toll to more than 61,700, saying thousands of Palestinians missing under the rubble are presumed dead.
At least 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas-led October 7, 2023 attacks and more than 200 taken captive.

Who are the top Gaza officials Israel has killed in the past week?

We’ve been covering Israel’s assassination of Ismail Barhoum.

The Hamas leader – who was killed in an Israeli raid on the Nasser Hospital while receiving treatment for injuries from an earlier attack – is the second member of the group’s Political Bureau to be killed in as many days.

Earlier on Sunday, Israeli forces killed Salah al-Bardawil as he was sheltering in a tent in al-Mawasi.

The pair are not the only political leadership of Gaza that have been killed in recent days.

On Tuesday, March 18, when Israel broke the truce deal with Hamas and resumed bombing Gaza, Israeli forces killed four more senior officials.

They are Issam al-Dalis, the head of government public works; Ahmed al-Hatta, undersecretary of the Justice Ministry; Mahmoud Abu Watfa, undersecretary of the Interior Ministry; and Bahjat Abu Sultan, director general of the internal security service.

Israel has also previously assassinated nine more members of Hamas’s Political Bureau, according to the group.

They are Ismail Haniyeh, Yahya Sinwar, Saleh al-Aruri, Rawhi Mushtaha, Sameh al-Sarrah, Marwan Issa, Zakariyya Muammar, Jamila ash-Shanti and Jawad Abu Shammala.

More Israeli attacks as death toll in Gaza rises to 16

Our correspondents in Gaza say Israeli forces are renewing their attacks on the cities of Khan Younis and Rafah.

In Khan Younis, tents and homes housing displaced Palestinians to the east and west of the city are under attack.

The assault comes as the death toll since the early hours of the morning rose to 16.
