The UN human rights office says at least 1,760 Palestinians have been killed while seeking aid in Gaza since late May, a jump of several hundred since its last published figures at the beginning of August.
At least 44 people were killed by Israeli army attacks across the Gaza Strip on Friday, hospital sources told Al Jazeera.
The Israeli army is stepping up its relentless campaign of bombing and destruction in Gaza City, leaving thousands of the city’s residents trapped with no safe escape.
At least one more Palestinian child starved to death in Gaza on Friday, raising the total number of hunger-related deaths in the famished enclave to 240, including 107 children, Gaza’s Health Ministry said.
Israel’s war on Gaza has killed at least 61,827 people and wounded 155,275. An estimated 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas-led October 7, 2023, attacks, and more than 200 were taken captive.

Pakistan slams Israel over Netanyahu’s ‘Greater Israel’ remarks

Pakistan has joined the chorus of condemnation of Netanyahu for his remarks about his vision for a so-called “Greater Israel vision”, which involves Israel seizing territory outside of its current borders.

A statement by Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said the country “strongly condemns and rejects” the remarks, and called on the international community to “outrightly reject such provocative notions that constitute a flagrant violation of … international law, principles of the UN Charter, as well as the relevant United Nations resolutions”.

It said the statements, made by Netanyahu to an Israeli news channel earlier this week, reflected Israel’s “intention to entrench its illegal occupation, as well as its complete contempt for all international efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace and stability in the region”.

Far-right Israeli minister makes prison visit to threaten ‘Palestinian Nelson Mandela’

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir was filmed threatening and taunting well-known Palestinian political prisoner Marwan Barghouti in a jail cell.

Sometimes referred to as the “Palestinian Nelson Mandela,” Barghouti has been imprisoned by Israel for more than two decades – and has been kept in solitary confinement since October 2023.

While Ben-Gvir could visit the jail to taunt a prisoner, Barghouti’s own family have not seen him since he was moved to isolation.

In al-Dhaher, south of Hebron, Israeli soldiers fired live bullets as they stormed homes. There has also been a raid reported in Kafr Dan, west of Jenin.
