A political star is born

Most movie fans have seen A Star Is Born in one iteration or another — the 1937 original starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March; the Judy Garland episode of 1954; the Barbra Streisand version alongside Kris Kristofferson, which hit the theaters in 1976; or the latest, starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, released in 2018. Unbeknownst to most, a brand-new star was born last night on Newsmax. That new star is North Carolina congressman Brad Knott.

As I often do at this time of year, I spent the evening watching Hallmark Christmas movies with my wife. After two movies last night (neither of which had anything new to offer), it was too late to start another. So before heading to bed, I flipped to Newsmax, which was carrying President Trump’s speech live from North Carolina. As the president introduced various individuals in the crowd, he mentioned two N.C. congressmen in the audience and invited them to the microphone. One of them was unremarkable, though likely a good man if he was introduced by the president. The other, actually presented first, was a man in whom I see star power.

As he began to speak, I thought, wow! This guy has it all: tall and good-looking, with a great speaking voice and manner. I think he looks a great deal like a young Donald Trump, although my wife disagrees.

What a pro-Trump, pro–North Carolina, pro-America message he delivered in just a minute or two. It reminded me a bit of the first time I saw John F. Kennedy speak.

I thought he must be severely flawed in some way; maybe he’s even on the Epstein list. But a bit of a dive into his history revealed him to be a man seemingly without any apparent flaw. Baylor undergrad and Wake Forest law graduate. Over seven years as a prosecuting U.S. attorney for Eastern North Carolina, married with two daughters. A man who ran for Congress because he got tired of seeing the corruption of the Biden years.

Knott will not (I don’t mean to sound repetitive) be 40 until this coming April. I envision him as someone joining the ranks of J.D. Vance and Marco Rubio as major players on the Republican national stage. Just remember, you read it here first.

I hope I live long enough to see him bloom on the national stage. Enjoy the video, and see what you think.
