Iran and Israel have halted their mutual attacks, but Tehran has warned that strikes will resume if Israel continues its “aggression”, including in Lebanon.

US President Donald Trump told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to “be careful, or you will be on your own very soon”, according to the Axios news site, as Israel’s strikes on Beirut and Iran threaten the US ceasefire with Tehran.

Iran’s chief negotiator with the US and parliamentary speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said Tehran has “disrupted” a ceasefire that was on paper only while “repeated violations” were carried out on the ground, and warned that there was no “genuine will to build trust”.

The US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) said its forces attacked and disabled an oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman that was heading towards an Iranian port, adding that a total of seven vessels have now been struck similarly since the US imposed a blockade on Iran’s ports in April.

Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon killed at least a dozen people on Monday, including a woman and child, with four Lebanese paramedics wounded, as the death toll from Israel’s onslaught on the country since March reached 3,637.

US Republican Congressman Thomas Massie has called for a new investigation into Israel’s deadly 1967 attack on the USS Liberty, which was struck off Egypt, leaving 34 US service members dead and 170 injured.

What’s happening in the occupied West Bank

Israeli occupation forces and settlers are continuing to raid Palestinian towns, destroy homes, and attack local residents in several parts of the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian Wafa news agency.

Here are just some of the latest reported incidents:

Jenin: Six Israeli bulldozers and military vehicles entered the town of Barta’a, forcing families to flee before demolishing eight Palestinian homes, including two that were still inhabited.

Hebron: Israeli forces raided the village of al-Tabaqa, detaining and severely beating several residents, which left them injured with cuts and bruises.

Bethlehem: Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian homes with stones and created disturbances in al-Maniya village. Separately, Israeli military forces entered and positioned themselves across several streets in the town of Tuqu’.

Occupied East Jerusalem: Israeli forces severely beat and arrested a group of Palestinian workers at the Isawiya military checkpoint as they were trying to reach their workplaces.

Rights group says US must use ‘leverage’ to pressure Israel to stop war

US-based rights group DAWN has called on the US government to put more pressure on Israel to end its “aggression in Iran, Lebanon and beyond”, amid reports of a rift between Trump and Netanyahu.

“Leaked reports and public statements about US disapproval of Israel’s actions are meaningless so long as the US fails to use its actual leverage–suspending arms transfers and intelligence with Israel,” said DAWN’s Executive Director Omar Shakir.

“By striking Beirut, Israel transparently sought to sabotage the emerging US-Iran agreement,” Shakir added.

Iran’s U-23 team reported to withdraw from football friendly with Bahrain

Iran’s Tasnim news agency has reported that the Iranian U-23 national football team is withdrawing from a friendly match with Bahrain.

The team, which is currently holding a training camp in Turkiye, has withdrawn from the friendly with “Bahrain and several other countries”, Tasnim reported, without providing more details.

The report comes amid heightened regional tensions, including recent Iranian strikes on what it said were US military installations in Bahrain and Kuwait.

Trump booed at NBA Finals amid Iran war, US economic woes

Trump drew significant booing from the crowd before the National Basketball Association (NBA) Finals game at Madison Square Garden in New York City, according to US media reports.

According to The Associated Press and footage circulated online, booing erupted from fans when the Republican president, who was viewing the match from an executive suite, was shown on the arena’s big screen during the national anthem late on Monday.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll completed on Monday suggests that Trump’s approval rating is hovering near the lowest point of his political tenure. The data indicates that a majority of Americans expect fuel prices to continue their upward trajectory as a result of his war on Iran.

Iranian officials said military operations against Israel have ended following the worst escalation in fighting since the start of a ceasefire in April, which ended major attacks by the US and Israel on Iran.

But Tehran also warned of harsher attacks on Israel if it continues its deadly onslaught against Lebanon.

Twenty countries slam Israeli law banning aid groups that don’t submit staff lists

The governments of 18 European countries, as well as Australia and Japan, have issued a joint statement describing Israel’s new registration laws for aid groups working in Gaza and the occupied West Bank as “deeply concerning”.

The statement came after Israel’s top court last week upheld the restrictions, which have seen 37 aid groups banned for refusing to provide lists of their Palestinian and international employees to the Israeli government.

The 20 countries said the new laws would “severely limit” aid groups and their ability to respond to the crisis.

“The aid entering Gaza has remained largely insufficient, both in quantity and in quality, while nearly the entire population depends on life-saving services,” the countries said.

“We again strongly urge Israel to not implement the registration law in its current form.”

Israel has banned dozens of aid groups that have refused to comply with the new laws, including Oxfam, Save the Children, Doctors Without Borders, known by its French initials MSF, and the International Rescue Committee.

The aid groups have cited a range of concerns, including Israel’s killing of hundreds of humanitarian workers in Gaza amid its genocidal war.

The UN official raised concerns over whether Israel is adhering to international humanitarian law regarding the mass displacement of civilians amid its invasion and bombing of Lebanon.

Vice President Vance says US in ‘good position’ to achieve goals in Iran talks

Vice President JD Vance has told Fox News that the US is in a good position to achieve Trump’s goals through negotiations with Iran.

“The Iranians don’t want this war to continue. It’s not in their best interest, and I think they’re coming to the table, putting some real things on the table – we’re of course going to verify,” Vance said.

“If we get to this deal, it’s going to be a home-run win for the American people,” he added.

Oil prices edge higher amid fears of renewed Middle East fighting

Oil prices pushed upwards during early trading as investors reacted to signals from Iran and Israel that future military strikes remain possible, despite their recent agreement to pause hostilities following a request from Trump.

Brent crude oil futures increased 13 cents, or 0.14 percent, to reach $94.38 per barrel as of 00:01 GMT on Tuesday, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) climbed 11 cents, or 0.12 percent, to settle at $91.41 per barrel.

Iranian envoy to UN hopes US-Iran talks ‘reach a conclusion’ by end of June

Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani said the US and Iran are “providing and exchanging the views to reach to a conclusion” through Pakistan’s mediation of talks.

“We have not received a final document, but we are pursuing to receive it,” he said in response to a question from The Associated Press after he spoke at a UN Security Council meeting in New York on Monday.

Asked if he thought a conclusion would be reached by the end of this month, the ambassador responded: “We hope so. We hope so.”

He also stressed that the ceasefire was comprehensive and applied to the region, including Lebanon, which Israel rejects.

Israeli leader Netanyahu has promised that Israeli forces will continue striking Lebanon’s Hezbollah, even as he backed off from further strikes with Iran on Monday.

‘Sometimes, lovers have a spat’: Israeli envoy on Trump, Netanyahu relationship

Israel’s ambassador to the US, Yechiel Leiter, has downplayed reports of tension between the US and Israeli leaders, telling Fox News that “sometimes lovers have a spat”.

Leiter said he had sat in on hundreds of calls between Netanyahu and Trump and that the pair have a “deep friendship that goes back some 40 years”.

He added that while Netanyahu “decided” to “lower the temperature” on military action against Iran at Trump’s request, the US president understands “full well” that Israel can’t “absorb ballistic missiles into our country without responding”.

“For the most part, we’re dealing with a very, very close collaborative effort between the United States and Israel, and there’s tremendous understanding,” Leiter added.

Trump’s tough words on Israel must be ‘matched by actions’

Phyllis Bennis, a fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies in Washington, DC, and an international adviser for the Jewish Voice for Peace activist group, told Al Jazeera that there is no real shift in US policy towards Israel, despite tough rhetoric from Trump.

Bennis said that Trump’s warnings were merely an attempt to appear firmer on Israel than he actually is, noting that “the words could be significant if they were matched by actions”.

“What we see now are a set of words – ‘You better be careful; you’ll find yourself acting alone’ – that are not backed up by actions,” Bennis said.

She pointed out that as long as Washington continues providing billions in military aid, shielding Israel from accountability at the International Court of Justice and International Criminal Court, and keeps US weapons flowing, “the words just don’t mean very much”.

According to Bennis, this approach mirrors the policy seen during the first years of the Gaza genocide under former US President Joe Biden and later under Trump, where the leadership would say, “Please stop killing so many Palestinians”, while continuing to supply unlimited weapons and taxpayer funding.

“As long as that continues, there’s really no reason that Netanyahu should assume that he has to worry about the words that sound very good to a US domestic audience,” she said.

Israel’s US envoy says ‘Lebanon will not have a future if it remains linked to Iran’

Israel’s ambassador to the US, Yechiel Leiter, has told Fox News that negotiations between the US and Iran have “nothing to do with Lebanon”, while also claiming that “Lebanon will not have a future if it remains linked to Iran”.

“The main issue here is that Iran is trying to connect the negotiations with the United States with Lebanon, and they have nothing to do with Lebanon,” the Israeli ambassador to the US said.

“When we hit Hezbollah, that has nothing to do with Iran, and they have to stay out of it,” Leiter added.

Hezbollah claims 16 attacks on Israeli forces in southern Lebanon

Hezbollah reported launching a series of targeted strikes against Israeli forces in southern Lebanon, hitting troop concentrations, military vehicles, and logistical equipment across several flashpoint areas.

According to statements detailing Monday’s operations, the group said it repeatedly targeted gatherings of Israeli soldiers and vehicles on the outskirts of Beit Yahoun, Rachaf, Naqoura, at-Tiri, and Aainata.

The statement also highlighted several key high-impact attacks, including drone strikes on a communications vehicle near Lebanon’s historic Beaufort Castle and an artillery position in Odaisseh.

Additionally, Hezbollah said it focused heavy fire on the southeastern outskirts of Yohmor al-Shaqif, claiming to have used loitering munitions, guided missiles, and artillery to destroy multiple ammunition transport vehicles and military bulldozers.

It’s one of the country’s most important industrial hubs.

Iranian media said there were no casualties, but potential losses and damage are still being assessed.

Al Jazeera’s Lina Abu Akleh explains.

A recap of recent developments

Trump has reportedly warned Israel’s Netanyahu that Israel risks losing Washington’s backing if it launches more strikes on Iran.

Iran’s envoy to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, said that while a final text has not yet been reached, Pakistan-mediated talks with the US are continuing.

Iran’s chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf earlier said the US is “neither seeking a ceasefire nor seeking dialogue”.

Iran said it has ended renewed attacks on Israel but warned of a harsher response if Israel’s strikes resume on Lebanon or Iranian territory.

The extent of damage to Iran’s Karun Petrochemical Company following an Israeli attack is still being assessed, Iranian media reported.

UN chief Antonio Guterres has urged Israel to reopen border crossings to the Gaza Strip after Israeli forces again closed them on Monday.

UN nuclear watchdog chief Rafael Grossi urged Iran to allow inspections of its nuclear facilities, as the US and European partners demand details regarding the location of its enriched uranium.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said the military will persist with its strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon, and will target Beirut if Israel is attacked by the armed group.
