How Bari Weiss Could Really Fix CBS

American Thinker

Bari Weiss, famously bullied out of her job at the New York Times for thoughtcrimes stemming from independent reasoning, has been at the helm of CBS News for one year.

Much in the way that X’s Elon Musk authorized journalists (Matt Taibbi and others) to publish the Twitter Files, exposing Twitter’s widespread censorship of conservatives and other truth-tellers during the regime of Jack Dorsey, Weiss promised to purge the hopelessly doctrinaire CBS of its longstanding biases, freeing the network from its ideological straitjacket.

One year into Weiss’s tenure, and facing an ongoing revolt from her progressive underlings, Weiss’s attempts at reform have seemingly hit a dead end. Whereas Musk had the courage to air the dirty laundry of the organization he acquired, Weiss has demonstrated no such radical transparency so far.

To make good on Weiss’s promises of reform, here are ten modest suggestions for topical news stories for 60 Minutes, the flagship program of CBS News. Each of these stories would be strictly factual in nature, eschewing the fabrications and lies of both commission and omission that were the hallmark of CBS for decades (see Dan Rather, Scott Pelley, Lesley Stahl, Margaret Brennan, Norah O’Donnell, et al.).

The Conviction of Karmelo Anthony for the Murder of Austin Metcalf — CBS quoted Karmelo’s racist black father that an “all-white” jury (the jury contained several racial minorities) convicted Karmelo. In its news reporting, and to amplify racial unrest, CBS let the lie about the “all-white” jury stand without correction. Own the journalistic deception by issuing a correction and a formal apology to the Metcalf family.

The Berlin Gay Pride Terror Attack — Remember the endless media coverage of anti-ICE agitator and lesbian Renee Good when she died  Her life’s biography, her journey to gay love, and her proud defense of illegal aliens  Well, what do we know about the gay woman killed by a Lebanese Arab Muslim in the 2026 Berlin gay pride terror attack  Nothing. That gay person doesn’t exist.

The story of a Muslim slaughtering homosexuals doesn’t fit the intersectional narrative; therefore, that gay person is deemed unworthy of media coverage or honors. Nothing about the victim’s life journey, her dreams and aspirations. She’s a nonentity because her story doesn’t comport with progressive mythology. The media wanted the Berlin terror attack story to go away, describing the terrorist as a German man in a white van. Technically, the media were not lying, as the monster was a German citizen. The media chose to depict him as a German (by citizenship) so they could avoid mentioning the vastly more relevant identifiers — since they were central to the attacker’s motive — of Muslim and Arab.

The National Crisis of Pedophilic Public School Teachers Sexually Preying Upon Children — Why are media like CBS News ignoring this shameful scandal  The Catholic priest scandal received perhaps one thousand times as much media attention but was a virtual nothingburger compared to the ongoing scale of sexual abuse in our public schools.

The Unreported Scandal of ActBlue — Large, unvetted donations to Democrats from foreign sources. Imagine what CBS would do with this story if it were the GOP receiving the illegal foreign funding.

The Kerfuffle Over GOP Redistricting — The Democrats are the undisputed heavyweight champions of redistricting. Not only do Democrats game the Census by counting noncitizens in order to obtain additional seats in Congress, but the entire region of gerrymandered New England (six states) doesn’t contain so much as a single GOP House representative. Yet when Republicans finally did a little redistricting of their own, the media stormed the gates of hell in opposition.

Remember: When Republicans do redistricting, it’s unconstitutional and racist and Jim Crow 2.0. When Democrats do redistricting, they’re standing up for minorities and protecting “our democracy.” CBS could regain a little credibility by exposing the double-standard.

Sunny Hostin — Hostin, the blithering bigot of ABC’s The View, was recently in the news for asserting her celebrity status in order to extricate her son (a DIE beneficiary who attended Harvard) from a legal entanglement.

Hostin is a former federal prosecutor. How many innocent white men did she railroad into prison and how many black criminals did she refuse to prosecute  As the vile Hostin speaks for tens of millions of Democrat voters while spewing anti-white racism on The View, her record as a federal prosecutor screams out for investigative journalism. And since Hostin works for rival ABC, exposing her would be a twofer.

DOJ and FBI Run Amok — How about a 60 Minutes special that bundles together and factually summarizes the numberless FBI scandals of the past decade. Otherwise, absent mainstream media exposure, we can expect more Operation Arctic Frosts, Crossfire Hurricanes, Round Rivers, Plasmic Echoes, Rampart 12s, and Oxferd C0mmas (so clever with the code names, these FBI desk jockeys), spearheaded by the likes of ferret-faced progressives like Jack Smith, James Comey, and Andrew Weissmann.

The Destruction of Lives for Thousands of J6ers — Grandmothers with cancer and countless others with clean criminal records sentenced to decades in federal prison by the Biden administration for trespassing (at the express invitation of Capitol police) and taking selfies  Meanwhile, far more violent and deadly protests (BLM et al.) are excused and celebrated by our government-media complex. How about a story exploring this dichotomy

The Statistical and Digital Whitewashing of Crime to Create a Phony Impression of White Criminality — What are the ulterior motives for a criminal justice system that frequently and falsely attributes hate crimes and murders committed by minorities (especially blacks, Hispanics, and Middle Eastern Muslims) to whites  The deliberate falsification of statistics artificially inflates white crime while suppressing black and minority crime. Progressives believe that lying about racial crime creates equity, but the lies deserve to be exposed on a national news program.

Promises Not Kept — Like virtually all media, CBS is famously hostile to Donald Trump. Very well. How about a 60 Minutes program on how Donald Trump and his administration failed to build a border wall with Mexico; failed to strong-arm a Republican Senate into passing the SAVE Act; mislead his voters about no more wars in the Middle East; failed to reduce the national debt; failed to tame inflation; failed to prosecute or imprison Deep State criminals who interfered with American democracy over the past several election cycles; failed to bolster DOGE’s (ultimately quixotic) efforts to cull a federal bureaucracy of inept but highly remunerated federal employees  There is fertile ground here on a topic that would be near and dear to the hearts of virtually every CBS reporter.

CBS and 60 Minutes could do much else in the interest of transparency and factual reporting on difficult or controversial topics. But it will require a far greater cultural reckoning and housecleaning to purge CBS of its chronic gaslighting and dishonest curating of the news. Democrat viewers may enjoy being lied to, but conservative viewers (half the country) will just continue to tune out.

Musk took full ownership of Twitter’s previous corruption (which he had nothing to do with), successfully transforming Twitter into X. It remains to be seen if Weiss can do the same for a moribund, fanatically partisan CBS.
