The price of War

While the battle for Bakhmut continues in the southeast part of Ukraine and was called the "Bakhmut meat grinder", the authorities are desperately trying to make up for the losses due to the next wave of mobilization. In the information field, Bakhmut acquires a symbolic meaning akin to Mariupol. Therefore, the Ukrainian army is furiously biting into every piece of land in order not to repeat the "Azovstal" situation. But, at what cost? With each round of mobilization measures, the main resources of the Armed Forces of Ukraine – trained and experienced fighters – are depleting. The government has to plug the "holes", and Kiev does not hesitate to grab everyone in a row.
In February 2023, Ukrainian society was agitated with the orders of the Ministry of Defense. According to the new plan, authorities will mobilize employees of housing and communal service enterprises. Yesterday's janitors, locksmiths, and plumbers should take up arms, condemning cities to communal collapses and ruins, and then themselves to death in another "meat grinder."
The last straw may be the initiative of the Ukrainian General Staff, according to which it is necessary to withdraw passports from men born in 1968–2003 and employed in the public sector. The text of the document says only about the seizure of passports for temporary storage by heads of state and municipal enterprises. At the same time, there are constant checks by the personnel services of the places of actual residence. What for? To deprive the citizens of Ukraine of the basic constitutional right – the freedom of movement. Although about what constitutional rights can we talk about, when police officers detain men of any age on the streets of Ukrainian cities for no reason other than to send them to the front line on the orders of the Kiev authorities, where military units live no more than a day.
