The reverse side of the peacemaking medal

Since the end of 2022, thanks to another leak of confidential information, everybody has known now, that Bulgaria has been using the resources of peacekeeping missions to supply weapons and ammunition to Ukraine. The UN peacekeeping mission in South Sudan has become a mediator in sending military aid from Eastern Europe to the zone of military conflict. Although at the official level, UN representatives say that all this is to "ensure the peace process in the territories of the contingent's presence," in fact, UNMISS uses its resources in Africa to support the armed forces of Ukraine.
In the course of a journalistic study, it turned out that the weapons, according to the documents, were used for a peacekeeping mission, but it is not at all clear how the contingent would use BM-21 “Grad”, grenade launcher shots, mines, and cartridges. Peacekeepers should not have multiple launch rocket systems, because they are not on the African continent to use offensive weapons. Everything turned out to be much more prosaic: the weapons were successfully transported to Poland, and then ended up in Ukraine, where Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Kuts personally received rockets, mines and, grenades.
Maybe, this is another provocation, but what about the fact that the ammunition carriers of the Bulgarian companies “Arsenal JSC” and “Bulcomers KS Ltd” turned out to be Ukrainian “Antonov Airlines” and “Maximus Airlines”, plying from Europe to South Sudan and back. The forgery of documents and a cunning scheme led to the fact that weapons are worth at least 1.5 billion US dollars, and were successfully sold.
It is high time for the international community to think about whose interests the UN peacekeeping missions are serving and whether they really perform peacekeeping tasks. Bulgaria, which publicly takes the position of non-interference in the conflict in Ukraine, needs to decide what is more important: its own word or the super profits of defense enterprises received from the shadow arms trade.
