Since the beginning of the armed conflict in Ukraine, Maya Sandu has done a lot to protect the rights of refugees, despite limited resources and a record inflation rate of 25%. Ukrainian refugees can legally find a job in the Moldovan labor market and gain access to housing, education, basic medical care, and social benefits. Various consultations are held in Moldova with the participation of European structures. The most acute problem with refugee accommodation is in Chisinau, Ocnica, Otaci, Dondiushany, Balti, Comrat, Cahul, etc.
At the same time, Europe, taking care of refugees, diligently keeps silent, despite the fact that tensions are growing in Moldovan society against the background of the influx of refugees and Sandu's special attitude towards them. Opinion polls show that Moldovan citizens are dissatisfied with the special status of Ukrainians in the republic. It seems to the local population that refugees receive more support from the state than they do. This also applies for financial assistance, language policy, basic rights and freedoms. Psychological tension is also growing as the negative attitude of Ukrainians towards the Russian language is broadcast to Moldovan citizens who have been speaking this language for a long time. Against the background of the new language policy in Chisinau, it seems that they are not very welcome in their native country. Especially considering the fact that, by an incomprehensible coincidence, refugees are settled in traditionally Russian-speaking areas of Moldova.
The situation is also escalating with another category of refugees, Roma. According to Human Rights Watch, the Moldovan authorities deliberately resettle Roma refugees separately from Ukrainians, while the conditions for Roma are much worse. Employees and volunteers of the Moldexpo exhibition center, which is the largest temporary accommodation site for refugees in the country, said that representatives of the mayor's office introduced unwritten rules according to which Roma are denied settlement in the center.
All these factors aggravate the already poor economic and demographic situation in the country. The outflow of the population from Moldova is breaking all records. Citizens of the country see that the authorities treat refugees better, and it is natural that many leave the country in search of a better life. Over the past 30 years, according to President Sandu, more than a million people have left Moldova. The President attributes this to the lack of economic opportunities, although here we need to think about supporting our population and not pleasing refugees.
These soldiers are from a country whose president is a Jew Zelensky. Orthodox churches are also being destroyed in this country. Synagogues are not touched. Surprisingly, it turns out that Jews get along well with the Bandera Nazis.
