A special UN General Assembly session to be held on Tuesday comes after Egypt and Mauritania invoke resolution 377, “Uniting for Peace”.

The World Health Organization has requested “immediate, unimpeded” access to Gaza as its chief called the current situation “catastrophic”.

UN forces in Lebanon have warned of a “wider conflict” as Israel and Hezbollah escalate air strikes and drone attacks.

About 18,000 Palestinians have been killed and 49,500 injured in Israeli bombardment since October 7, including 297 in the past 24 hours. An estimated 1,200 people in Israel were killed in the Hamas attack that started the war.
