The WHO chief says an aid mission managed to reach Al-Shifa Hospital in north Gaza, bringing food and medical supplies, as the Health Ministry says 2,000 medical workers in the north face famine.
The US says Israel has not yet presented a plan to protect civilians in its planned invasion of Rafah as Israel’s self-imposed Ramadan deadline for invasion passes.
Israel has carried out strikes in the vicinity of Lebanon’s Baalbeck, nearly 100km (62 miles) from the Lebanon-Israel border.
Israel imposes restrictions on West Bank worshippers entering Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem, as 35,000 gather for prayers on the first day of Ramadan.
At least 31,045 Palestinians have been killed and 72,654 injured in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7. The revised death toll in Israel from Hamas’s October 7 attacks stands at 1,139, and dozens continue to be held captive.

CENTCOM confirms Houthi missiles fired at vessel in Red Sea

The US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) has confirmed that the Houthis fired two antiship ballistic missiles at a Singaporean-owned and Liberian-flagged ship called “Pinocchio”.

Posting on X, CENTCOM said the missiles did not impact the ship. We previously reported that the Houthi-run SABA news agency had claimed that Pinocchio is a US-owned vessel and that the missiles had struck the ship.

CENTCOM also reported that following the attack on Pinocchio, US forces carried out six “self-defence strikes” in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen, destroying an unmanned underwater vessel and 18 antiship missiles.

9000 women have been killed in Gaza: Palestinian minister to UN

Palestinian Minister of Women’s Affairs Amal Hamad has called on “all the women of the world to stand by Palestinian women” as she spoke to journalists during the UN Commission on the Status of Women in New York.

“I am from Gaza and our people in Gaza are subjected to genocide, ethnic cleansing and an unprecedented war of starvation and thirst,” she said. “All the necessities of life have been destroyed by Israel’s war machine.”

“Pressure should be exerted on Israel to reach a ceasefire urgently” so that people in Gaza can receive “urgent relief” during Ramadan, she added.

Hamad also spoke at a side event on women in Gaza, with Palestine’s mission to the UN sharing a video showing delegates responding with applause and chants of “Free, free Palestine”.

US intelligence chief says Gaza conflict may have ‘generational impact on terrorism’

The October 7 attacks and Israel’s war on Gaza have “galvanised violence by a range of actors around the world”, says Avril Haines, the US director of national intelligence.

Speaking at a Senate Intelligence Committee briefing in Washington, DC, on Monday, Haines added that the conflict has inspired “individuals to conduct acts of anti-Semitism and Islamophobic terror worldwide”.

“While it is too early to tell, it is likely that the Gaza conflict will have a generational impact on terrorism. Both al-Qaeda and ISIL (ISIS), inspired by Hamas, have directed supporters to conduct attacks against Israeli and US interests,” she said.

Haines also added that US intelligence assesses that Hezbollah and Iran “do not want to cause an escalation of the conflict that pulls us or them into a full-out war”.
