Israeli attacks on Deir el-Balah in central Gaza killed at least 12 people and wounded many more, including children, according to videos and witnesses.

Thirteen aid trucks arrived safely in Jabalia and Gaza City, marking the first convoys to travel from the south to the north of the Gaza Strip without incident in four months.

Ceasefire talks could resume in Qatar as early as Sunday, with an Israeli delegation led by Mossad’s spy chief expected in Doha to discuss Hamas’s proposal for a three-stage plan to end the war.

At least 31,553 Palestinians have been killed and 73,546 injured in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7. The death toll in Israel from Hamas’s October 7 attack stands at 1,139 with dozens taken captive.

Rights advocates sound alarm over Israeli torture of Palestinian detainees

Israeli rights groups have called for international action over Israeli abuse and torture of Palestinian detainees, saying the situation amounted to a “crisis”.

Tal Steiner, the executive director of the Public Committee Against Torture in Israel (PCATI), told the AFP that nine people had allegedly died behind bars since October 7.

And “there are almost 10,000 Palestinians in Israeli custody right now… a 200-percent increase from any normal year”, she said.

Miriam Azem, of the Adalah legal centre, told the AFP that her organisation had managed to document “19 clear cases” of torture within the Israeli prison system since October 7, including sexual violence.

“We’re seeing really widespread and systemic use of many, many tools in order to inflict torture and ill-treatment on Palestinians,” she told AFP, adding that the situation “requires the immediate intervention of the international community”.

EU expected to announce billions in loans, grants for Egypt

The European Union is expected to announce billions of euros in grants and loans for Egypt amid economic woes compounded by the wars in neighbouring Gaza and Sudan.

A delegation, including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and the leaders of Italy, Greece and Cyprus, is expected in Egypt on Sunday.

Egypt’s Finance Minister Mohamed Maait has said the country is expecting $5-6bn in EU funding as part of a broader International Monetary Fund (IMF) deal, which was conditioned on demands such as selling off state assets.

The Reuters news agency, citing diplomats, said Egypt’s strategic importance has been underscored by the conflict in neighbouring Sudan, which has created the world’s biggest displacement crisis, and the war in Gaza, which borders Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.

Clashes, explosions as Israeli forces storm Nablus

More on the ongoing Israeli raids on the West Bank city of Nablus.

Our colleagues at Al Jazeera Arabic are reporting hearing explosions and seeing Israeli forces violently fighting with Palestinian young men in Nablus. Footage from the scene earlier in the night shows tear gas on the streets of Nablus.

The Wafa news agency said Israeli forces accompanied by a bulldozer took part in the raid.
