UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said more than one million people in central and southern Gaza did not receive any food rations in August, adding the “humanitarian situation in Gaza remains beyond catastrophic”.

Gaza’s Health Ministry says the Israeli military is refusing to coordinate the entry of medical teams affiliated with the emergency polio vaccination campaign into areas in the enclave’s south.

Hamas accuses Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of thwarting a ceasefire deal by refusing to withdraw forces from Gaza’s border with Egypt.

At least 40,878 people have been killed and 94,454 wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza. At least 1,139 people were killed in Israel in the Hamas-led attacks on October 7.

Blinken says 90 percent of Gaza deal agreed, but ‘critical issues’ remain

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said one of those issues was the future status of the security situation on Gaza’s southern border with Egypty, adding that it was imperative for both Israel and Hamas to say yes to solving the remaining issues.

“Based on what I have seen, 90 percent is agreed but there are a few critical issues that remain,” including the so-called Philadelphi corridor on the southern edge of the Gaza Strip bordering Egypt.

Speaking at a press briefing during his trip to Haiti, Blinken said there were also some gaps in the agreement in how Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners are exchanged.

“I expect in the coming days, we will share with Israel, and they (Qatar and Egypt) will share with Hamas our thoughts, the three of us, on exactly how to resolve remaining outstanding questions,” Blinken said, referring to the US and ceasefire mediators Qatar and Egypt.
