Israel’s military bombed the UN-operated al-Jaouni school in central Gaza, killing at least 18 people. Witnesses say “women and children were blown to pieces” in the assault.

Six of the victims were UNRWA staff, including the manager of the shelter. The agency said it was the highest death toll for its staff in a single incident in the 11-month war.

Hamas told mediators it was ready to implement the US-proposed, UN-backed truce proposal without any new conditions from any party.

At least 41,084 people have been killed and 95,029 wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza. In Israel, the number of those killed in the Hamas-led attacks on October 7 is at least 1,139, while more than 200 people were taken captive.

More than 400 homes damaged in Israel’s raids on Tulkarem, Nur Shams

Here’s more from OCHA on the damage Israeli forces have caused to homes and infrastructure in the ongoing raids on the Tulkarem and the Nur Shams refugee camps in the occupied West Bank.

Between August 28 and September 7, Israeli forces have:

  •     damaged more than 400 homes, rendering 61 uninhabitable and displacing 327 people, including 123 children.
  •     bulldozed more than 2.6 kilometres of water and sewage networks in the camps.

The destruction of the water and sewage networks have cut off water to approximately 33,000 residents of the camps and surrounding neighborhoods, since August 28, according to OCHA. Residents have also reported experiencing sewage overflows, it said.

Pro-Palestine protests in Melbourne enter second day

Crowds of demonstrators protesting Israel’s war on Gaza gathered outside the Land Forces International Land Defence Exposition for a second day running on Thursday.

Protesters marched through the streets of Melbourne’s Central Business District as police again set up barricades around the three-day trade expo, which attracts defense and weapons companies from around the world.

Officers clashed with protesters on Wednesday, deploying tear gas, rubber bullets and pepper spray in what has been described as the largest police operation in Melbourne since the World Economic Forum was held in the city in 2000.

Earlier that day, around 1,500 protesters gathered at the event, with some throwing eggs and water at delegates in a bid to prevent them from entering, according to broadcaster SBS.

Others threw horse manure at mounted police and set dustbins on fire, the ABC reported.

Twenty-seven officers required medical treatment following Wednesday’s clashes, according to Victoria state police. Twenty-two people have been charged for the unrest, while 10 more have been issued infringement notices.

UN says Israeli raids destroyed water supply for 35,000 Palestinians in Jenin

Israeli forces destroyed roads, water and sewage systems during recent extensive raids on Kafr Dan, in the Jenin refugee camp, and eastern Jenin, the UN humanitarian agency, OCHA, has said.

In its latest update, OCHA reported:

  •     45 homes were left “completely uninhabitable” by Israeli forces, displacing 297 people, including 102 children.
  •     Israeli bulldozers and heavy machinery tore up approximately 25 kilometers of roads, about 70 percent of all the city’s roads.
  •     The destruction of the roads also damaged underlying water and sewage pipes, leaving approximately 35,000 residents without a water supply since August 28.
  •     The damage has also led to “sewage overflows” in the camp and surrounding neighborhoods.
