UN: New strains of coronavirus will negate vaccination progress

The progress made by the world community in vaccinating against coronavirus can nullify new strains, said the president of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly Abdullah Shahid on January 19, speaking at the first meeting of the body this year.
Shahid noted that new mutations of the virus will appear, and they can "negate all the progress we have made over the past two years." The chairman of the General Assembly explained that some strains may turn out to be more deadly and immune to the effects of vaccines.
Note that in some countries, where the vaccination rate of the population reached 75% and higher, recently there has been a record increase in the incidence of COVID-19.
In France, on January 14, more than 322 thousand new cases of coronavirus infection were recorded, which greatly exceeds previous records of daily morbidity since the beginning of the pandemic. At the same time, as of January 14, more than 75% of the population in the country were vaccinated with two components of the vaccine.
A similar situation has developed in Spain. In this country, on January 13, more than 159 thousand new cases of COVID-19 were registered, while more than 80% of the inhabitants were fully vaccinated.
