Tā least 10 people have been killed in Israeli bombings of homes and a healthcare centre in Qana, a Lebanese village that suffered Israeli massacres in 1996 and 2006.

Al Jazeera’s correspondent in Gaza says residents trapped in the Jabalia refugee camp face continued “carnage” with Israeli forces carrying out “systematic destruction” as the siege of northern Gaza enters a twelfth day.

Israeli attacks killed at least 61 people across Gaza on Tuesday, including 10 members of the Abu Taamiya family in the south of the territory.

Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem tells Israel in a televised speech that the solution to settlers returning to northern Israel is a ceasefire in Lebanon and Gaza.

In Gaza, at least 42,344 people have been killed and 99,013 injured in Israeli attacks since October 2023. At least 1,139 people were killed in Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, and more than 200 people were taken captive.

Fear and defiance as Israeli missiles target Lebanon’s Beeka Valley

Israel has intensified it bombing campaign in eastern Lebanon with the Bekaa Valley experiencing multiple air attacks that hit residential areas near Baalbek city on Tuesday.

Dr. Ghassan al-Bazzal of the Al Mortada Hospital recounted how an Israeli air strike hit so close that the medical facility was damaged.

“The strike hit just 100 metres away. We sustained a lot of damage. The upper sections were severely damaged: The windows, the glass, the solar panels, the x-ray room, the labs,” al-Bazzal told Al Jazeera. “We had patients who were being treated because of previous air strikes. We had to transfer them to another hospital,” he said.

Baalbek resident Yunus Ramadan said all homes with 500 metres of the site attacked by the Israeli military had been damaged. Despite the danger, Ramadan said he would not leave his home.

“Everything has been damaged. Of course I am afraid. If you are not afraid then you are not human. If you had been here when the missile hit, then you also would have been afraid. I’m never going to leave though. Even if my house collapses on my head,” he told Al Jazeera.

Israel orders residents in Beirut’s Dahiyeh to flee ahead of imminent attack

Israel’s military has ordered the immediate evacuation of residents in the southern suburb of Beirut.

The military posted a map of the Haret Hreik area of the city’s Dahiyeh suburb and told people to move away from a building highlighted in red.

Residents were warned to move at least 500 metres (1,600 ft) away from the building and surrounding buildings, claiming it was a “Hezbollah facility”, against which the military “will operate in the near future”.

US advocacy group condemns ‘double tap’ attack that killed children, doctor in Jabalia

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has condemned an Israeli “double tap” attack that killed several children, as well as a doctor who tried to save them, in the Jabalia refugee camp in the north of Gaza.

The Israeli military reportedly returned to bomb the home of the family of a US citizen after an initial strike injured 15 people, including seven children, on Monday night, CAIR said in a statement.

Trapped under the rubble, the family called for help, but Israeli forces also then targeted an ambulance, killing Ahmed Najjar, a doctor, and several children, CAIR said.

CAIR called on US leaders, including the Biden administration, the US State Department and elected officials in Virginia, where the family’s relatives live, to “demand that the Israeli government cease its attacks on” Jabalia.https://www.aljazeera.com/news/liveblog/2024/10/16/live-ten-killed-as-israel-hits-homes-healthcare-centre-in-lebanons-qana
